Association Montessori Internationale

Welcome to the School Board of Management! We are dedicated to fostering an enriching educational environment that empowers students and supports our committed faculty. Together, we strive to promote excellence in academics, encourage creativity, and nurture individual growth. Our collaborative approach emphasizes open communication, transparency, and community engagement. By working hand in hand with parents, teachers, and staff, we aim to cultivate a safe, inclusive, and inspiring space for all learners. Join us as we embark on an exciting journey towards shaping a brighter future for our students and the entire school community.

The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) was established in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori, pioneering scientist and educator. Today AMI carries forward Maria Montessori’s scientific and philosophical work. A significant objective of the organisation which works to create an awareness of her multi-layered work, is to focus attention on the development of children from birth to maturity and make an impact through child education on global society. AMI upholds holistic Montessori practices and guides the development and application of her work in education and beyond.

AMI works to spread Montessori’s vision globally. AMI seeks to:Preserve the legacy of Maria Montessori’s vision whilst continuing to innovate and increase the impact and reach of Montessori principles and practice.

Advocate for the rights of children and adults to have access to nurturing, developmentally appropriate, educational environments. Uphold quality standards whilst reaching out to collaborate and partner with individuals, communities and organisations who share these values. The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) is a leading world authority in Montessori education and child development studies. From its international headquarters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, AMI directs the work of AMI Montessori Training Courses all over the world ensuring rigourous standards in the delivery of the theory and practice. AMI awards diplomas and certificates to students of AMI training centres who complete the requirements. AMI functions as the source of complete Montessori training, and a centre for continuing research and development. Montessori education is based on scientific foundations of the natural development of human beings. It seeks to create the right environment for healthy human development and is universally applicable to children from birth to adulthood and for the elderly members of society. Children who experience a Montessori education are guided to think independently but work collaboratively, whilst building respect and appreciation for other people and the environment around them. The result is an educational approach that will have a social impact on the world. AMI is a global NGO. The vision of the organisation is to support the natural development of human beings throughout their lives, enabling them to contribute positively to society, fostering a more peaceful world through education. AMI works with educators, school leaders, governments, community leaders and researchers to continue Montessori’s legacy of education for a more peaceful and just society.

AMI offers courses at affiliated training centres in more than 40 countries. AMI Montessori diploma programmes are offered to qualify teachers to work with children at 4 stages of development – 0-3 years, 3-6 years, 6-12 years and 12-18 years.

AMI delivers certificate courses to offer an overview of Maria Montessori’s philosophy on human development. Recently certificate courses have been developed to train caretakers of the elderly. An online course offers basic knowledge on how to integrate sports into Montessori environments across all ages. Qualified AMI trainers provide these Montessori techniques and principles, so that they can be used in a variety of settings.

AMI publishes a newsletter and a journal for their members. These publications share news of the organisation and the international Montessori community and provide further reading of Montessori and a broader view of education.

The AMI website makes available many resources for its visitors. There are videos filmed in Montessori environments for different ages, a photo library, the life and work of Maria Montessori, research sources, a bank of Montessori quotations, handouts and presentations.

To propagate Montessori principles globally, particularly to reach it to those without access, AMI works with AMI Affiliates in different parts of the world. The Educateur sans Frontiers (Education without Borders) division of AMI seeks to connect and enable the communities to assist or support child development through self-help or sponsored educational initiatives.

Maria Montessori in her lifetime took her approach across the world, to train teachers and work with children in all societies. Montessori education has grown into the largest international education movement in the world, with Montessori education present in almost 150 countries.Today AMI works to ensure the reach of her ideas worldwide, across socio-economic, regional and national boundaries.

The Mission

The mission of the Association Montessori Internationale is to support the natural development of the human being from birth to maturity, enabling children to become the transforming elements of society, leading to a harmonious and peaceful world.

AMI Montessori Training

The Association Montessori Internationale accredits training centres throughout the world. These centres offer AMI diploma courses that are internationally recognised for their high standard and authenticity. The courses offered by the Association Montessori Internationale prepare adults to work with children at the following levels: Assistants to Infancy (0-3), Primary (3-6), First Plane (0-6), and Elementary (6-12). “Work is also underway to document the current body of knowledge relating to Montessori education for the 12-18-year age group, and an orientation for teachers (in collaboration with NAMTA) is available. Each year thousands of teachers and classroom assistants are trained worldwide. The number of AMI teachers graduating is still less than the demand, which is due to the worldwide recognition of the quality of the AMI Diploma. All training centres are staffed by highly qualified AMI teacher trainers, and a pedagogical team of experienced advisors ensures that the objectives of Maria Montessori’s pedagogical principles are maintained. Students are examined by external examiners appointed by AMI to further ensure the high standards and integrity of the courses. Training centres may also run courses at more than one geographical site.

About Indian Montessori Foundation (IMF)

The Indian Montessori Foundation (IMF) is a pan-Indian voluntary organisation that works to promote Montessori principles of child development among teachers and parents. It was established in 2009 to create awareness about Montessori principles and provide a common forum for anyone interested in child development. The IMF is guided by a team of trustees who bring considerable experience in education and training across India.

Indian Montessori Foundation (IMF)

Being a voluntary organisation run by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers across India and abroad, IMF has brought together like-minded Montessori practitioners, educators, and experts who are in service of children through various platforms. The organisation supports parents, teachers, schools, AMI graduates, and others interested in Montessori education. IMF is the Indian affiliate of the Association Montessori Internationale, Netherlands.

IMF organises talks, workshops, webinars, and conferences, creating spaces for discussion and interaction. The aim of these events is to enrich the lives of young children by bringing the community together.

Montessori books are inspiring. They are mainly drawn from transcripts of Montessori’s lectures given in various courses. Her words put us in close touch with the child and his environment.  IMF publishes books written by Maria Montessori to support the practice of Montessori education in India. Montessori environments require handmade materials. The teachers are usually hard-pressed for time. So IMF also produces a few useful educational materials which are widely used in Montessori schools. Small-sized furniture, in keeping with Montessori principles and suitable for children between birth and six years, is made to order.

IMF publishes a newsletter called The Touch Board to reach out to all members of the Montessori community – AMI members, teachers, parents and alumni. The newsletter features articles, anecdotes, columns, features, news from the training centres and creates an ongoing dialogue in the community. Eight issues are published between July and March each school year.

The IMF Annual Journal, called Montessori Matters, carries serious articles on education by Montessori experts, practitioners, and educators, as well as transcripts of presentations given at IMF conferences.

Friends of IMF will have special access to the donors’ section. The Touch Board and Montessori Matters, along with articles on education and child development, are available to read online. Indian Montessori Foundation has instituted the Anandhi Ramachandran Endowment Fund (AREF) to support the education of Montessori teachers and Montessori Teacher Trainers. AREF is a special corpus donation that helps people who need financial assistance to train as Montessori teachers or trainers. You can connect with IMF on Facebook and Instagram.
